No No NaNo

I'm afraid it's true -- for the first time in four years, I'm opting out of NaNoWriMo mid-month. Though NaNo has worked miracles for me in the past, I don't feel the excitement this year. I'd rather opt for quality over quantity. So while I'm going to keep writing, I'm not going to push the word counts.

In no way does this mean I no longer believe in the principles of NaNo. I absolutely do. What it means is that I have other obligations this month that are cutting into my writing time. Consequently, making the word counts means I will end up with a lesser quality product than I want. So I'm taking my time, easing up.

I hope the rest of you are cruising right along!

BEHIND!

I've started out with a...slow crawl. It's been a busy week. I'm way behind on my NaNo goals, and not likely to get much done today. So here's to a banner next week! How are the rest of you doing?

IT'S NANO TIME

Don't get it right; get it written.

--Chris Baty, founder of National Novel Writing Month

It's that time of the year again. I've done NaNoWriMo for the past three years and have finished my 50K in a month each time. The first two years went well. I completed an award winning manuscript and its sequel. Last year I attempted a Harlequin Presents type novel. Though I finished, I was not happy with the result. In fact, I considered making last year my last NaNo, but since I did so well in 07 and 08, I thought I'd try once again. I'm officially starting tomorrow with a goal of 4K for the four days of this week. I'll move to 5K per day next week, and 2K per day the week after, which will complete my 50K goal. We leave November 23 for Jamaica, so like the past two years, I have only three weeks to get my writing done. During November I won't be doing my normal hero posts on Mondays and hunk posts on Wednesdays, but I will update every day or so with my wordcounts, and I promise to add something for your viewing pleasure :).
