Current read: Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon
It's that time of the month again -- time for me to post my goals for May.
I need to tackle this from a new perspective. I've done great at achieving all my goals so far this year -- great, that is, except for those goals pertaining to new writing. I've edited my work, others' work, critiqued, blogged, promoted, worked on my local chapter conference. You name it, I did it. But somehow, my own writing has fallen to the bottom of the pile.
Time for a change in priorities. While all those other things are important and will further my career, I am first and foremost a writer. So writing is moving to the top of my list.
My plan for May is simple. For two hours every morning, before I look at email, blogs, anything else, I write. I must write 1000 new words during this time. If I hit 2000, I can stop early. But from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. each weekday, I write.
So far, I've been successful. Of course, I've only done this for two days, LOL. Here are the results:
5/4 -- 1128 words
5/5 -- 2059 words
The Vixens are joining me in this experiment for May. We'll all share our word counts at the end of the month. We're also emailing each other daily with the following mantra: I matter, my creativity matters, my goals matter, and my success matters.
So go ahead, give yourself permission to write first and worry about the rest later. It'll still be there when you've written your 2K ;).
Tune in tomorrow for the Wednesday hunk. Until then -- WRITE.

OMG!
There is something so erotically stimilating about a hunk in water. Or is just me?
I'm with Helen and the other Vixens in making my writing my biggest priority.
I have held off on promotion, critiques and get the time sucking web mistress at bay.
Helen,
I needed to read this today. THANK YOU for the kick in the pants that I needed. :-D
Best of luck with your goals, Helen. If anyone can achieve them, it's you. :) I'm still thinking about how I'm going to participate - because I definitely want to - but I know that when I waited to get on the internet until AFTER my writing was done, I got a lot more accomplished. Daily accountability helps, too.
Here's to a great May!
Hi Helen, I totally need to get into this mindset, too. I get so sidetracked by the blogs and loops and Facebook et al. They're such fun, but my ADD is bad enough as it is. Grrrrrrrrr.
At least I'm close to finalzing my current wip. It has taken longer than I thought, with surgery recovery and the ins and outs of our daughter's wedding. Oh, and boo, the death of our dog. Whew.
Best of luck reaching your goals...which I know you will.
Best,
~Tanya
